Automatic transmission cars greatly support the driver, even those who are new to driving or have been driving for a long time can learn to drive easily. With an automatic transmission car, the driver does not spend too much effort, just holding the steering wheel, pedaling the brake and accelerator quite simply and easily, hardly using the gear lever except when starting the car.
Besides, the driver does not need to pay much attention to the gearbox because the control system on the car automatically adjusts the gear to suit the driver's speed. In particular, when driving an automatic transmission car, the driver only needs to use his right foot, so the left foot can rest.
Although it is easy to drive, whether a new driver or a long-time driver needs to remember the following basic principles to safely drive an automatic transmission:
When starting the car, the driver needs to pay attention to the following operations: fully depress the brake pedal, put the gear lever in the "P" position, pull the handbrake. This helps you avoid accidental entry into gears when starting up.
Note when shifting gears to move in different terrains such as uphill, downhill. For safe and proper gear shifting, the driver needs to hold the brake every time he shifts. Use only your right foot to drive, do not drive with 2 feet. Make it a habit to always keep your right heel on the floor of the car, directed at the position of the brake pedal. When stepping on the gas, turn your foot to the right, only half the foot on the gas pedal.
Do not change from reverse (R) to forward (D) until the vehicle has come to a complete stop. To operate quickly, after reversing the car, the driver often applies the brake and gently shifts the gear lever to move forward. However, if this happens often, it will cause the gears to break because the torque is reversed suddenly, causing serious damage to the gearbox.
Do not continuously "throttle" when the machine is not hot. Some drivers have a habit of revving up right after starting. When starting the engine, the oil in the engine has not yet lubricated the mechanical parts. If the driver continuously accelerates, the engine will work quickly, the friction generated will cause the parts to wear out quickly.
Should check the brake with low gear L, D2, D3. When going up/down slopes, a rule adopted by many drivers is “upshift, downshift”, as long as it is for slopes of equal incline in both directions. However, when seeing a steeper slope, the driver must shift to a lower gear.
When you are stuck in traffic, or moving slowly, you should not check the accelerator, because in automatic transmission cars, just let go of the brake pedal and the car will roll at a slow speed.
Do not place bottles or other objects on the floor, as they can roll and jam the brake/gas pedal. Do not wear sandals when driving, because the strap or sole of the shoe can hook on the accelerator or brake pedal, obstructing and dangerous to driving. If the indicator light in the gear lever position flashes continuously, the transmission may be faulty, now we should bring the car to a service center to check the problem immediately.
If you own an automatic transmission car, don't ignore the useful tips above, know the driving experience, but also don't forget to take care of the car's maintenance by remembering the time to change the car oil periodically.
